Note: New developments make citations and bibliographies easier check here.
Citation Machine is a simple online tool that will give citations in the correct format if we manually input all the fields. It offers MLA, APA, Chicago and Turabian styles. The utility of this tool lies in its ability to show the correct output - which is useful when we are pouring through the complicated style guides. Another good feature of this utility is that it gives notes about the nuances of the styles that we have to be careful about. This is a useful tool if one does not have a citation manager like Refworks (see review) or Endnote.
It is a free tool and is useful to review and consult. If one has a small number of citations, one can even manually get them formatted using this tool. It’s useful, but for limited purposes.
Similar tools are offered by other sources including MLA Citation Generator, Knight Cite, etc. Most of these are targeted at young students in College or schools.
