Liberation Technology is a new field of study that explores how different actors are using technology to shape democracy, accountability, human rights and development.  The term was coined by my colleague Larry Diamond, a renowned political scientist at Stanford University.  Scholars of the field have looked at both positive and negative consequences of technology to human freedoms and also how we can shape technology so that it has the best impact on it.
